by Tim Stewart, MLB Class of 2010

January saw the Bucerius/WHU Master in Law and Business students play host to WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management's MBA students. The basis for the long weekend (7 to 10 January 2010) was for the students to get to know one another and to gain a better understanding of Hamburg's business community. This was achieved by a mixture of company visits, presentations and social events. The high points of the serious side of the weekend were company visits to Beiersdorf AG and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG ("HHLA") on Friday and a presentation about Manroland AG and the printing industry more generally on Saturday. The students greatly appreciated the time given to them by staff from all three companies. However, the students were in particular grateful, and lucky, to be hosted at HHLA by Dr. Stefan Behn, a member of HHLA's Executive Board, and for Mr. Fritz Torneden, Managing Director of Manroland AG, for giving up his Saturday to speak to them. Dr. Behn explained HHLA's business and then joined the students on a tour of the container port. Mr. Torneden was an engaging speaker and encouraged great discussion over the future of Manroland and the printing business generally. The weekend was rounded out with a number of social functions including drinks atop St. Michael's church's tower and the best Hamburg's night life had to offer.
