On Tuesday, August 26, 2008, Bucerius Law School and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management presented the second year of their joint degree program Master of Law and Business ("MLB") with their degree in the Auditorium of the Bucerius Law School.
Professor Dr. Dres. h.c. Karsten Schmidt, President of Bucerius Law School, and Professor Dr. Martin Fassnacht, Associate Dean of WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management welcomed the guests. Present were the graduates' family and friends, as well as donors and friends, members of the consular corps, employers, lecturers, members of staff and the new "Class of 2009". The main speaker Dr. Martin Deckert, board member and Chief Operations Officer of UBS Deutschland AG, encouraged the graduates to apply for interesting positions and not to lose sight of their own dreams. Professor Clifford Larsen, Dean of the Master Program and UBS Professor of Law, congratulated the graduates and thanked everyone, including the graduates' parents.
Ms. Xirui Li, from China, provided a musical touch to the celebration on the grand piano. Axel Moeller, this year’s student representative from Namibia, warmly spoke about his fellow students as the "Rainbow Class". Aside from the joy of having a new title at the end of an exhausting year, the sadness of having to say goodbye was clearly visible.
With the help of both Universities alumni, a yearbook and resources such as Facebook it will be easy to stay in contact with the growing network around the world. Many of the graduates have already signed a work contract.
